Our journey begins in the picturesque city of Arica, fondly known as the City of Eternal Spring, thanks to its delightful climate.
Our first stop is the San Marcos Cathedral, a Gothic-style architectural masterpiece from the 19th century. Designed by the renowned French architect Gustave Eiffel, it was crafted from metal and wood in France and assembled in Arica in 1876. This stunning cathedral has held the title of National Monument since 1984 and Historic Monument since 2002.
Our tour continues along the scenic waterfront, visiting remarkable sites like the former Scorpion Island and its fortification, designated as a National Monument in 1985. Here, archaeological findings hint at pre-Hispanic settlements.
The area is a haven for water sports enthusiasts, offering activities like bodyboarding, surfing, diving, swimming, fishing, climbing, and sailing. Prestigious sporting events, such as the Maui and Sons Arica WorldStar Tour and the ACC Grand Slam Bodyboarding, are hosted here.
Nearby, we find the notable Balneario de La Lisera, a hub for the fishing industry and a catalyst for the city's commercial activities.
Next, we ascend "El Morro de Arica", a prominent geographical feature rising approximately 130 meters above the southern urban area of Arica. It stands as the city’s most significant tourist and symbolic landmark and was declared a National Monument in October 1971.
From this vantage point, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the landscape. El Morro also serves as a historical reminder of the 19th-century war, with a museum located at its summit.
This rocky outcrop was a strategic stronghold during the War of the Pacific, featuring defenses like Fort Ciudadela, Fort del Este, Fort Morro Gordo, and the Morro Bajo Naval Base. Here, you can see cannons, the bust of Colonel Pedro Lagos, and the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.
Lastly, we will visit beloved local spots including the Carlos Dittborn World Cup Stadium, Extension to the 21st of May, Costanera Norte, Chinchorro Beach and Resort, and General Velázquez.
Indulge in the flavors of the region at the Central Market, where you can savor authentic local dishes such as fresh fish and seafood (not included).
After a day rich in history, culture, and stunning vistas, we will return to our starting point. This Arica City Tour promises to deepen your appreciation for the region and leave you with cherished memories.
