Tour Description
Today, embark with us on an enchanting journey through La Serena and Coquimbo, where every corner reveals a unique story and every view is a work of art.
Our adventure begins as we gather in the hotel lobby, ready to explore a world filled with discoveries, history, colonial architecture, bustling markets, coastal vistas, sea breezes, and a deep appreciation for local culture.
Our first stop is The picturesque Recova, a quintessential spot in La Serena, welcoming us with its delightful stalls. We then proceed to the historic Plaza de Armas, surrounded by colonial buildings. Each step immerses us further into the city's rich historical tapestry.
Next, we find tranquility in the serene Japanese Garden, an oriental aesthetic oasis offering a peaceful retreat amidst the city. Inaugurated in 1994 to celebrate the 450th anniversary of La Serena's founding, it stands as a gift to the community.
After soaking in the Japanese essence in the city, our journey leads us to the Monumental Lighthouse, constructed between 1950 and 1951 by the Chilean Navy. As a prominent "notable vertical urban landmark," it is a nationally acclaimed tourist attraction. Its aesthetic and architectural significance is highlighted by its proportions and Neo-Colonial fortification style, blending with the Serena Plan's lighthouse architecture.
We stroll along the stunning and iconic Avenida Del Mar, symbolizing the majestic bay that links La Serena and Coquimbo. Here, we catch a glimpse of diverse culinary offerings while relishing the sea breeze and panoramic vistas, helping you decide on future dining choices.
Upon reaching Coquimbo, we meander along the charming waterfront, appreciating the harmony between the ocean and the urban landscape. The Cross of the Third Millennium stands ready to greet us. This religious monument on Coquimbo's El Vigía Hill commemorates the Catholic Church's 2000 jubilee. It offers a unique opportunity to ascend the museum, over 200 meters above sea level, providing unparalleled views of the city below.
After descending from the cross, we head to the imposing Fort Lambert, a powerful reminder of the region's military past. Situated in Coquimbo on Castillo del Carmen Hill, in an area known as Punta Pelícanos, it is named for the islet populated by pelicans just 40 meters offshore.
Before we begin our return journey, we will explore Coquimbo's captivating English Quarter, where history and Buenos Aires-style charm converge on every street. Located on the outskirts of Coquimbo's city center, the English Quarter is renowned as the region's premier tourist, culinary, and heritage district. By day, it captivates visitors with craft shops, bakeries, and cafes, while at night, nearly fifty restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs bring Coquimbo's port to life with bohemian flair.
With our hearts brimming with memories, we return to the hotel. Each corner explored and every story uncovered becomes part of your lasting memory of La Serena and Coquimbo, two coastal gems of Chile.
We eagerly await your presence on this magnificent coastal urban adventure.
