Today, embark on a thrilling local adventure that will guide you through the lush green spaces and historical landmarks of downtown Santiago. Immerse yourself in the city's parks, modern neighborhoods, and captivating culture, ensuring an unforgettable afternoon. Delve into Santiago's rich history, vibrant culture, and distinctive architecture, reflecting its roots since colonization.
We will collect you from your hotel at approximately 8:00 AM or 2:30 PM to commence our journey towards Santiago's historic center.
Our adventure begins with a brief 5 to 10-minute walk to our first destination, Cerro Santa Lucía. This green oasis at the city's core offers a refreshing escape from the urban hustle. Each corner of this site narrates a rich history dating back to pre-Columbian eras. Nestled within is the Hidalgo Castle, a 19th-century fortress featuring neoclassical architecture. Meandering cobblestone paths lead to its treasures: terraces, viewpoints, and gardens offering breathtaking views of Santiago and the Andes, along with fountains and sculptures like the Neptune Fountain and Plaza de la Victoria.
Our next stop is the delightful Lastarria Neighborhood, celebrated for its bohemian charm, cobblestone streets, cafes, and art and culture boutiques. It's a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll and exploration.
We'll proceed to Plaza de Armas, Chile's starting point, also known as kilometer 0, which serves as the historic core of Santiago. Here you'll encounter the Metropolitan Cathedral and other historic buildings around the square, including the City Hall, the Post Office, and the History Museum.
Our journey continues to the significant Civic District of the capital, where notable governmental and cultural institutions reside, such as the La Moneda Palace. As Chile's presidential seat, it stands as an important historical and political emblem. This iconic structure is revered for its elegant facade and its pivotal role during the 1973 military coup. Though palace interiors might be off-limits, we can admire the beautiful courtyards and gardens encircling it.
