Tour Description
We will commence this tour by departing from the guests' accommodations in Coyhaique at approximately 6 AM to set off on our adventure along the Southern Highway towards the charming town of Puerto Tranquilo.
During our journey of roughly 223 km, we will have the opportunity to admire the stunning lenga, ciruelillo or notro, coigüe, and ñire forests. Along the way, we will pass notable landmarks of the region, including Laguna Chiguay, Piedra del Conde, and Portezuelo Ibáñez, which marks the highest point on the entire Southern Highway. As we near the Ibañez River Valley, we will be able to take in the views of Cerro Castillo, as we traverse the new Cerro Castillo National Park. There will be several photo stops along our route, where we will pass through the Dead Forest, a testament to the Hudson Volcano eruption that occurred in 1991. We will then descend through the Murta River Valley until we encounter the vastness of General Carrera Lake. Upon arriving in Puerto Tranquilo, we will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will take a brief transfer to General Carrera Lake for the eagerly awaited boat excursion to the Marble Caves. This spectacular location, shaped by the lake's erosion of the limestone, boasts magnificent caves. After exploring the area and soaking in the stunning views of the Marble Caves, we will head back to the city of Coyhaique, pausing at Villa del Cerro Castillo for a potential snack purchase, if desired.
