Tour Description

Experience Rapa Nui from a fresh angle with this guided horseback riding tour of medium difficulty, perfect for adventurers eager to connect with the island's nature, history, and volcanic scenery. This adventure spans approximately 3 hours and presents two route choices, both accessible throughout the year and guided by a certified local expert.

The first route is the Mount Maunga Terevaka Horseback Ride, taking you to the island's peak at 530 meters above sea level. The excursion begins with a vehicle transfer to Fundo Vaitea, the starting point for the horseback climb up gentle volcanic inclines. At the summit, participants can relish stunning 360° panoramic vistas, showcasing the island's three corners and the expansive surrounding ocean. Along the journey, you'll encounter the Rano Aroi volcano and its lagoon, encircled by indigenous flora. The descent proceeds toward the Ahu Akivi region, where the group is collected for the return trip to Hanga Roa.

The second choice is the Caverns Horseback Ride, an intriguing journey not recommended for those with claustrophobia. This path delves into noteworthy volcanic caves formed by ancient lava tubes, visiting Ana Kakenga, Ana Te Pora, and Ana Te Pahu. Ana Kakenga is famous for its dual underground tunnels opening onto a sea-facing cliff; Ana Te Pora is distinguished by its vast interior; and Ana Te Pahu is significant for its size and historical role as a sanctuary for the Rapa Nui people during the era of slavery. Inside the caves, visitors can observe remnants of ancient kitchens, cultivation areas, and petroglyphs. The tour concludes with a return to the starting stable, followed by transportation back to the hotel.

Both horseback excursions provide one horse per participant, complete safety riding gear, flashlights (for the caverns route), and pick-up and drop-off from centrally located hotels. National Park entry fees, meals, and drinks are not included. Departure times are available in the morning or afternoon, subject to reconfirmation.
