Frequently Asked Questions

The Lake Crossing excursion is a multimodal tour that combines bus transfers and catamaran cruises across Andean lakes, connecting Chile and Argentina between destinations like Puerto Varas and Bariloche. The itinerary includes photo stops, viewpoints overlooking volcanoes and forests, and immigration procedures at the border crossing. Depending on the chosen program, it can be done as a full-day trip or as a multi-day excursion with an overnight stay. The experience prioritizes landscapes, nature, and local culture. Schedules and meeting points vary depending on the season and weather conditions; you will receive confirmed details upon booking.

The tour price typically includes ground transfers between ports and catamaran sailing, a Spanish/English-speaking guide, and coordination at the Chile-Argentina border crossings. Some programs include port fees and a snack; accommodations and full meals are generally not included except in specific packages. National park entrance fees, tips, and personal expenses are usually optional. We will send you a voucher detailing what is and isn't included, along with pick-up times. We recommend bringing cash and an international credit card in case of local charges or operational changes.

For the Lake Crossing, you need a valid travel document for both countries: a current passport or national identity card (DNI) for citizens of Mercosur and associated countries. Check if your nationality requires a visa for Chile or Argentina and if you need to present a return ticket and proof of funds. Immigration and customs controls are carried out along the route; certain fresh foods are not permitted (SAG/SENASA). Purchase travel insurance with medical and cancellation coverage. Minors must travel with authorization if they are not accompanied by both parents. It is essential to bring the original document, not photocopies, and verify the updated requirements before booking.

The best time for this excursion in Patagonia and the Andean lakes is from spring to autumn (October–April), with more stable weather, longer days, and more frequent departures. Summer is peak season: advance booking is recommended. In winter, there may be snow, wind, and temporary pass closures, so the tour is subject to weather conditions. Dress in layers, wear a waterproof jacket and non-slip footwear; add a hat, gloves, and sunscreen. Bring a reusable water bottle and snacks. We always confirm the weather forecast and any potential rescheduling to ensure your safety and the best possible scenic experience.

Cancellation and change policies vary depending on the tour operator and the season. As a general guideline, many tours allow reduced-cost cancellations up to a few days prior to departure and apply penalties for no-shows or last-minute cancellations. If the tour is affected by adverse weather or border closures, we typically offer rescheduling, an alternative itinerary, or a refund, subject to supplier availability. Port taxes and bank charges may be non-refundable. We recommend purchasing travel insurance with cancellation coverage for justifiable reasons. To avoid any issues, please be punctual for pick-up and check the specific conditions on your voucher.
