Today, we embark on a journey to uncover the Natural and Cultural Wonders on this trek through the Fray Jorge National Forest Park.
Our adventure begins with a departure from La Serena around 8:00 a.m. Prepare yourself to unveil all the marvels awaiting us today. Dress comfortably and bring along essentials. Remember to pack water and your camera to capture unforgettable moments, and stay inquisitive to take in every detail.
We will arrive around 10:00 a.m. at the Trail in the Fray Jorge Forest, where we will delve into the region's only "Hydrophilous Forest". As we trek along a trail of about 1 kilometer, we will ascend to the hill's summit. Here, we will relish in this natural wonder, recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, revealing its unique character: a mystical, reflective Valdivian forest, a gem harmonizing with the surrounding semi-arid landscape. Suitable for trekkers of all levels.
We will immerse ourselves in the forest's richness, sustained by the camanchaca, a dense fog rising from the sea that breathes life into this distinctive ecosystem. While exploring the park's trails, we'll encounter native flora and fauna.
Around 12:30 p.m., we'll make our way to Barraza, a colonial town that has retained its charm since the 1800s. With its cobblestone streets, old-style houses, and historical essence, Barraza transports us to another era. By approximately 2:00 p.m., our adventure continues as we head to an Archaeological Heritage Site. We'll explore the Valle del Encanto National Monument, where history comes alive through petroglyphs and pictographs, showcasing the richness of the Molle culture. We will discover tracks of hunters with records dating back to 2000 BC and small stones narrating the stories of ancient cultures.
At around 5:00 p.m., we will commence our return to La Serena, carrying with us hearts full of unforgettable experiences, enriched by the sensations of today's unique natural setting.
