Scenic stretches along the Carretera Austral are combined with boat trips to the Marble Caves, scenic viewpoints, and easy to moderate hikes. The best time to travel to Chilean Northern Patagonia is between November and March (peak season), with longer daylight hours and good conditions for excursions, boating, and trekking. September–November and March–April offer fewer tourists and spring or autumn scenery, although the weather remains changeable. In winter, some services operate with limited capacity. Patagonian weather is unpredictable: wind, rain, and sun can all happen in the same day. Pack layers of clothing, a waterproof and windproof jacket, a hat, gloves, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Recommended footwear: hiking boots with good traction. Book in advance, especially for boat trips to the Marble Caves.

The tour is considered easy to moderate, suitable for travelers with basic fitness who enjoy 1- to 3-hour hikes, some elevation changes, and boating on lakes or fjords. No technical experience is required, but confidence on uneven terrain is essential. Families with children are welcome; it is generally recommended for ages 6–8 and up, depending on altitude and weather. Activities can be adapted to the group's pace. People with reduced mobility may find some sections challenging. Local guides prioritize safety and provide daily briefings. Inform the guides of any medical conditions and bring your personal medication. Purchase travel insurance that covers outdoor activities.

You can book online with confirmation or through an advisor, paying a deposit to secure your spot during peak season. Cancellation and change policies vary by date and provider; check deadlines, refunds, and any applicable fees. Logistical recommendations: arrive at Balmaceda Airport (BBA), bring cash and credit/debit cards (restricted signal and few ATMs), soft and waterproof luggage, a reusable water bottle, and snacks. Pick-up is usually at your hotel in Coyhaique or the airport. Documentation: valid ID or passport. Limited connectivity along the route. Practice responsible tourism: respect trails, wildlife, and local communities, and minimize waste during your excursion along the Carretera Austral.
