Starting from our hotel in Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas, we set off toward the charming Town of Pargua, where we board a ferry to cross the Chacao Channel to the legendary Isla Grande de Chiloé. During this 45-minute voyage, you'll have the chance to observe sea lions at play in the waves, pelicans soaring overhead, along with a variety of marine birds, allowing you to fully appreciate the natural splendor of the region.
Upon reaching Chacao, we'll explore this delightful town, known for its buildings made of larch wood and the iconic San Antonio de Chacao Church, designated as a National Monument. Our journey continues along the coastal route to Caulin, renowned for its intertidal wetland, home to a rich diversity of birds such as black-necked swans, herons, and flamingos, especially prominent during the winter months. This distinctive landscape invites you to connect with nature as you soak in the tranquility of the surroundings.
We arrive at Puñihuil Beach around noon, where an extraordinary experience awaits: a boat excursion to the islets that harbor the Puñihuil Penguin Colony. During this 40-minute cruise (ticket not included), you'll be captivated by the sight of Magellanic and Humboldt penguins, protected species that find sanctuary in this National Monument due to its ecological significance.
