Tour Description
Embark on an unforgettable full-day adventure exploring the northern part of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. This journey takes you through the charming town of Porvenir and a remarkable visit to the King Penguin colony located in Bahía Inútil.
Your day begins bright and early at 7:00 a.m. as we depart from your hotel in Punta Arenas. We will head to the Tres Puentes terminal to board a ferry for a two-hour journey to Porvenir on Isla Tierra del Fuego. This voyage will take us across the historic Strait of Magellan, a 583 km long channel that links the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic. In Porvenir, we'll explore the Fernando Cordero Rusque Museum, where you'll discover exhibits on local fauna, pioneering Chilean cinema, gold mining, and an impressive archaeology and ethnography collection of the Selknam, the ancient inhabitants of this Patagonian region.
Following a delightful local lunch, we will journey along the edge of Bahía Inútil, traversing a landscape filled with vast pampas and an endless horizon.
En route, you'll have the chance to observe a variety of birds, sheep ranches, and herds of guanacos, native South American camelids akin to llamas and alpacas. After covering approximately 114 km, we will reach the King Penguin Park, home to a permanent colony of these magnificent birds, second in size only to the emperor penguin.
Known for their exceptional diving abilities, these large penguins plunge to impressive depths in search of squid. During the summer, you might even catch a glimpse of adorable chicks, adding to this captivating experience.
Our journey continues as we depart the park towards Primera Angostura, the narrowest section of the strait, spanning just 5 km. Here, we'll board a 20-minute ferry back to the mainland, followed by a scenic 200 km drive to Punta Arenas.
An extraordinary adventure awaits you in Magallanes—don't miss this incredible experience!
