Tour Description
Today, we invite you to embark on an extraordinary cultural adventure in the Azapa Valley.
We will collect you from your hotel at the designated time. This could be at 9:00 a.m. or, alternatively, in the afternoon around 4:00 p.m. We will confirm the exact timing together.
Our journey will transport us back to the era of pre-Columbian civilizations that once thrived in this region. This tour offers a chance to delve into remarkable archaeological sites, ancient mummies, and the rich cultural legacy that characterizes this area.
Our exploration begins in the Azapa Valley, renowned for its verdant vegetation and its production of olives, grapes, as well as mango and passion fruit plantations. You will take in sweeping views of the fields and plantations, providing a stark contrast to the surrounding arid landscape.
We will proceed to the Cerro Sombrero housing complex and its Geoglyphs, notably featuring La Tropilla, followed by a visit to Cerro Sagrado de Alto Ramírez. Situated about 8 km from the coast within the Azapa Valley, the slope facing the valley is adorned with a geoglyph composed of dark stones laid on the lighter hill background. This artwork includes large depictions of humans, camelids, snakes, and lizards, visible from afar.
After we explore these ancient archaeological sites, which date back millennia, and uncover these mysterious petroglyphs, remnants of dwellings, and evidence of the valley's ancient agriculture, we will proceed to our final destination, the Visit to the San Miguel de Azapa Museum.
